CAPTA Executive Board and Officers

Members of the Executive Board will be directors and peer tutors of secondary school writing centers or those involved with secondary school writing centers. All board members serve staggered two year terms except for immediate past president and student representatives who will serve one year terms. Board members will meet on a monthly or bimonthly basis, as agreed upon by the Board itself.

PRESIDENT
Amber Jensen, George Mason University, Virginia
September 2014 – December 2017

The elected president will chair the board meetings, appoint and oversee committees, and set agendas. Two year term: non-renewable.

 

 

VICE PRESIDENT
Kate Hutton, Herndon High School, Virginia

The elected vice-president will be primarily responsible for maintaining membership lists and partner relationships while working closely with the president and assuming the duties of the president in his/her absence. Two year term: non-renewable.

SECRETARY
Stephanie Passino, Hayfield Secondary School, Virginia
January 2017 – December 2018

The elected secretary will take minutes at every meeting and keep organized records for this organization.  The secretary will oversee communication with membership. The secretary will work together with the treasurer to ensure the reports and filings to the state and federal authorities are made in a timely manner. Two year term not ending on the same year as the president. Renewable once.

TREASURER

The elected treasurer will oversee the financial matters of the organization and ensure that funds  are deposited promptly in the appropriate accounts. The treasurer will be involved in preparing the organizational budget. The treasurer will have the responsibility of keeping books and preparing checks.  The treasurer will work together with the secretary to ensure the reports and filings to the state and federal authorities are made in a timely manner. Two year term not ending on the same year as the president. Renewable once.

TUTOR REPRESENTATIVES

The elected student representatives will be responsible for providing input to the board, and advising them on student-centered issues.  As they are elected by their peers, they will have voting rights on the board. Student representatives will also be responsible for reaching out to peer tutors, facilitating partnerships between schools, and maintaining peer tutor and alumni contact lists. Any current peer tutor at a CAPTA-affiliated secondary school writing center is eligible to apply. One year term.

MIDDLE SCHOOL REPRESENTATIVE
Renee Brown, Peters Township Middle School, Pennsylvania
January 2017 – December 2018

The Middle School Representative will ensure that our programs and initiatives are inclusive of the needs of our growing community of middle school writing centers. At-large members will be integral members of the board, responsible for providing input and participating on Standing Committees to further the purposes and mission of the organization. One year term, renewable.

SOCIAL MEDIA MANAGER
Seth Czarnecki, Algonquin Regional High School, Massachusetts
January 2017 – December 2018

The Social Media Manager is responsible for the upkeep of content and design of the CAPTA Facebook and Twitter accounts, working together with the Board and especially the Website Curator, to promote news and events of the organization through these platforms. The Social Media Manager proposes and implements ideas for developing the organization’s social media strategy, including sharing resources and building a network to serve our mission of building community, promoting advocacy, and supporting development of SSWCs. The Social Media Manager will also be responsible for providing input and participating on Standing Committees to further the purposes and mission of the organization. One or two year term, renewable.

WEBSITE CURATOR

The Website Curator will be responsible for the upkeep of website content and design on www.captawritingcenters.org. The curator makes the site more easily navigable and robust in content to support for our CAPTA Member Schools and inviting for new schools to learn more about SSWCs and our organization’s mission. The Website Curator also proposes and implements ideas for developing the website, including publication of resources and blog updates to serve our mission of building community, promoting advocacy, and supporting development of SSWCs. Two year term, renewable.

AT-LARGE MEMBERS

Beth Harar, Woodgrove High School, Virginia

Hannah Baran, Albemarle High School, Albemarle, Virginia
September 2014 – September 2017

At-large members will be integral members of the board, responsible for providing input and participating on Standing Committees (see below) to further the purposes and mission of the organization. They will have voting rights on the board. Secondary school writing center directors, administrators, and university partners are eligible to apply. One year term; renewable indefinitely.
